Bangkok never really goes quiet. Traffic, notifications, deadlines, the heat. Many people who come to my studio tell me the same thing: they want to relax, but when they sit down to meditate in silence, their mind will not stop.
A sound bath is one of the easiest ways I know to find that quiet. If you are looking for a sound bath in Bangkok and you are not sure what it is, what happens or how to choose one, this guide is for you.
I am Ice, a sound healing practitioner in Bangkok and the founder of Attuned Studio. This is what I tell people before their first session.
What is a sound bath?
A sound bath is a session where you lie down, close your eyes and listen. The practitioner plays instruments like Himalayan singing bowls around you, and you let the sound wash over you. That is why it is called a bath. You are not in water. You are surrounded by sound.
You do not need to do anything. No poses, no breathing technique, no right or wrong way to listen. This is what makes it different from most meditation. You do not have to quiet your mind by effort. The sound does that work for you.
What happens during a sound bath
Every practitioner works a little differently. This is what an evening sound bath looks like at my studio.
You arrive, take off your shoes and find your mat. There are cushions and blankets so you can get comfortable. I explain what will happen, so nothing feels strange once we start.
Then you lie down and close your eyes. The bowls begin softly. Over the hour the sound changes: sometimes deep and slow, sometimes higher and clearer, sometimes almost silent. You might feel the vibration in your body. Your thoughts might drift, slow down, or stop for a while.
Some people fall asleep. Some see colours. Some feel emotional. Some simply feel calm. Everyone experiences it differently, and all of it is fine.
At the end I bring you back slowly. You sit up when you are ready, have some water, and take a moment before going back out into the city.
Why a sound bath helps you relax
I like to keep this grounded, because there is a lot of exaggeration about sound healing online.
When you lie down at the start of a session, your brain is still running at its normal waking pace. Busy, alert, processing the day. As the sound continues, your brain begins to follow the slow rhythm of the bowls. Your thoughts slow down, and your body follows.
Go deeper and you reach the state between waking and sleeping. Not unconscious, but not fully alert either. This is where your nervous system gets its deepest rest. Most people never get there through effort alone. Sound gets you there without trying.
What people tell me afterwards is simple: they feel calmer, they breathe more easily, their mind feels clearer, and many sleep better that night.
How to choose a sound bath in Bangkok
There are more places offering sound baths in Bangkok every year. These are the things I would look at.
The size of the group. In a smaller group the practitioner can see everyone, adjust the sound and help if someone needs something. My group sessions have up to 14 people.
The practitioner’s training. Ask where they trained and how long they have been practising. Playing a bowl is easy. Holding a room of people safely for an hour is a skill.
The space. You want a room that is quiet, clean and comfortable to lie down in. You will spend the whole hour on your back, so the mats and blankets matter more than you think.
The time of day. An evening session after work is perfect for letting go of the day. A morning session can set the tone for the whole day. Choose what fits your life, because the best session is one you can come back to.
What is included. Check how long the session is, what you need to bring, and what happens if you arrive late. A good studio tells you this clearly before you book.
Group or private sound bath?
A group sound bath is affordable and repeatable. It is the best way to make sound part of your regular routine, and there is something special about resting in a room with other people doing the same.
A private session is built around you. It starts with a conversation about how you are feeling and what you are going through, and the sound is chosen for that. It is a good choice if you are carrying something heavy, if you prefer not to be in a group, or if you simply want the full attention of the practitioner.
I wrote more about this in one on one or group sessions.
Sound baths at Attuned Studio
My studio, Attuned Studio, is on the 4th floor of The Upper Ground on Kamphaeng Phet 3 Road in Chatuchak, with parking available. One guest described it as a sanctuary in the middle of the city, and that is exactly what I wanted it to be.
These are the sessions I offer:
- Group sound bath. Evenings, 1 hour, 700 THB. Fully passive: you lie down and receive.
- Chakra Awareness Meditation. Mornings, 1.5 hours. An active first part where we chant together, then a sound bath. 700 THB the first time, 350 THB when you return.
- One on one session. 1 hour of sound plus a personal consultation, 2,500 THB.
- Private group session. For you and your own group, from 3,000 THB for two people.
You can see the upcoming dates on the sessions page.
Before your first sound bath
Wear something comfortable. Eat lightly beforehand and skip the coffee if you can. Arrive a few minutes early so you are not rushing in from the traffic. Most of all, come without expectations. I put a few more tips in tips for your first sound bath.
Where to begin
A sound bath is an hour where nothing is asked of you. In a city that never stops, that is rare.
You do not need experience, and you do not need to be good at meditation. You only need to lie down and listen. The rest follows.
Curious what a sound bath would feel like for you?
Whether you want to join a group session or would rather start with something private, tell me a little about what you are looking for and I will help you choose. Group sessions have limited mats, so it is good to reserve your spot.
